Abstract:
The internet is a pool of information which is available at the click of a button. It has caused a revolution in the way we teach and learn. We can see exponential growth in the field of education with increased availability of tools. Many researches have been done with to respect to the gender differences in the academic achievement and differences in the opinion. This research was conducted to examine the use of modern technology Webquest into the acquisition and transfer of knowledge using resources of the internet. It also served to determine whether this new way of accessing knowledge is a beneficial tool in aiding students to a higher level of achievement.

Objectives of the research were:

  • To study the difference in academic achievement of boys and girls of 8th grade learning through webquest.To study the difference in academic achievement of boys and girls of 8th grade learning through webquest.
  • To find out the opinion of students towards learning through webquest.
  • To compare the achievement (posttest) scores of boys and girls learning through webquest.
  • To find out the correlation between academic achievement and opinion of learners towards learning through webquest for both the genders
To fulfill the above objectives the researcher selected experimental method and used. One group pretest posttest pre-experimental design was used. The treatment was administered on the 8th grade students of co-ed school with computer labs which was selected purposively.
It was found that there were gender differences in the academic achievement while learning through webquest. The change observed in the students was that they look forward to taping new sources of knowledge which is available to them from the internet. Also it was found that girls performed better than boys and also had a strong liking towards using webquest as a teaching strategy. Students found webquest approach interesting and effective way which can be used in teaching.
