Abstract:
Many times collaborating with peers and facilitator leads to greater learning and also makes learning interesting. In online scenario, the learners are not physically present in the same class but the similar feeling and effect can be developed with use of collaborative tools.

Recently many collaborative editing tools are introduced in the market. They have features like online file sharing and editing, version saving, commenting, instant messaging and more. All these facilities can be used for sharing, group work and assessing the individual contributions.

Thus, researcher is curious about whether these can be used as effective collaborative tools while learning online.

Objectives of the research were:

  • To develop instructional material and session plan to be used for the online learning sessions conducted using collaborative editing tool.
  • To study the effectiveness of the collaborative editing tool for online learning.
  • To find out the student’s opinion about the use of the collaborative editing tool in online learnin

An Experimental Research was selected as a research method. Quantitative research was undertaken to measure how many people feel, think or act in a particular way. The aim was to classify features, count them and construct statistical models in an attempt to explain what is observed. The study was based on the pre-experimental research and the sample was of 18 female students from METCA VIIth batch.
This study examined the effectiveness of collaborative editing tool in online learning process. The independent variable was collaborative editing tool. Pre-test and post test was developed on the content that was to be taught through the collaborative editing tool. Opinionnaire was used as a tool for data collection.

It was found that, the collaborative editing tool can be used in online learning as an effective tool.
