Abstract:
Depending on our interest and ability, we selectively process the information to suit our requirements. As a result of which we find a change in our behavior. Thus, learning can be defined as “a permanent change in behavior due to experience.” Experience here refers to the selection process from the environment. This selective processing of information is pre-dominantly based on the learning style of the individual. The term learning style has been defined as the composite of characteristics cognitive, affective and physiological factors that serve as relatively stable indicators of how a learner perceives, interacts with and responds to the learning environment.”
Objective of the research was:
- To study the effects of learning styles on academic performance
To fulfill the above objective researcher selected exploratory survey research method. Purposive sampling method was used to select the sample. Survey was conducted on the students of 9th standard aged between 13-15 years. In this exploratory study, the learning styles of the students were quite diverse. Students prefer to learn in a variety of different ways with each style of learning having its own unique strengths and weaknesses. Thus after comparing the academic performance of different learning styles, It was found that there was no significant difference between the academic performances of the four learning styles.
